Getting the Best out of Percussion
This is a hands-on session to give teachers new ideas and confidence in making great sounds with a variety of percussion instruments.
Along with teaching you how to run an improvised drum circle, Allan will demonstrate new and interesting ways to play percussion instruments in the classroom with your students.
This session will also include discussion and demonstration on: how to get the best sounds from a wide range of classroom tuned and untuned percussion; mallet choice; tuning; and tips for instrument maintenance and organisation.

Allan Watson
Allan Watson is a professional percussionist and timpanist with more than 39 year’s experience working in the Opera Australia Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. He was a lecturer at the University of NSW for over 10 years teaching percussion techniques to trainee teachers.
He has been a clinician for Education Conventions and has also performed with MSO, SSO and on many filmscores, games soundtracks & TV shows. Allan has developed and improved many of the new and unique percussion products and is a Zildjian Cymbals Orchestral Artist.
